Closet storage systems are the best thing since sliced bread. You can hang all of your clothes up wrinkle free and in a highly organized and simple to maintain manner. Your days of sock drawer scavenger hunts and ties creased beyond repair are finally over.

If you rely entirely on freestanding wardrobes consider whether a built in solution would offer more storage space. If this is not practical perhaps you could change your freestanding wardrobe to a larger one, or add an additional freestanding wardrobe to your home.

If it appears that the closet space that you have is completely inadequate firstly consider whether there is space available anywhere else within your home before making expensive changes. If this is not feasible consider what changes are required to make your closet storage workable.

Don't forget about the closet floor and door. You can store shoes on floor shoe shelves or in a hanging shoe holder on the inside of closet door. You can also add door hooks or a hanging rack for purses, coats, ties and belts or an over the door accessory bag to store personal grooming items such as hair dryers or curlers or even your dirty laundry.

Built in closets often have adjustable shelving and rails. If this is the case consider whether you are able to reconfigure your closet to better meet your needs. Alternatively ask a builder or handyman to suggest ideas for the layout of your closet to increase storage space. A walk in closet offers the most flexible storage of clothing. In this case there are multiple closet systems available, and they are usually flexible and adjustable.

Having done this examine the items that you want to keep. Count the number of each separate item such as pairs of shoes, dresses that require long hanging, shorter hanging items and accessories. Work out whether the closet space that you have can actually accommodate the items that you have. If the answer is yes, then you have probably already achieved your goals simply by sorting through your clothes.

Most of us are well aware of the many possibilities that wire closet organizers bring to the table. However, they are generally lacking in the style department. Wire closet organization systems are useful, but they're hardly pleasing to the eye. Luckily, there are plenty of attractive alternatives. Woods in finishes ranging from deep mahoganies to bright almonds are available; melamine, in a colorful palette of colors, is also an excellent possibility to consider. Thanks to these diverse options, creating closet storage systems that complement the rest of your interior design scheme is a snap.

If you have no experience with closet storage systems, they can be a nightmare to put together, especially if you're in a place with limited room and space. It's very difficult for most people to figure out closet storage systems without help - and that's where I come in.

Plainly spacious closets alone don't reach the ultimate goal of shelving and organizing though, that's why closet storage systems are important. A system creates a pattern to be followed, thus, structured organization is achieved.
